Hyderabad: Global technology giant Amazon has announced a massive $7 billion (over ₹63,000 crore) investment to significantly expand its cloud data centre infrastructure in Telangana over the next 14 years, reinforcing Hyderabad’s position as a leading digital and technology hub in India.

The investment will be made through Amazon Web Services (AWS) following a strategic framework agreement signed with the Telangana government. This move comes just a day after Amazon revealed its broader plan to invest $35 billion in India, highlighting strong confidence in the country’s digital growth story.

Strengthening AWS Presence in Hyderabad

The latest commitment builds upon Amazon’s earlier investments in the state. In 2020, AWS announced an initial $2.7 billion investment to establish its Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region, which became operational in 2022. Hyderabad was AWS’s second data centre region in India, after Mumbai.

Later, Amazon upgraded its investment plan to $4.4 billion by 2030 to expand its data centre footprint. The newly announced $7 billion investment marks a significant scale-up, aimed at supporting the growing demand for cloud services, data storage, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital transformation across industries.

Boost to Telangana’s Economy and Vision 2047

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the scale of Amazon’s investment reflects the trust global investors place in Telangana’s governance, stability, and long-term vision.

“This is Telangana Rising 2047 in action. Such investments will propel the state towards its $1 trillion and $3 trillion economy goals,” the Chief Minister stated.

The expanded AWS infrastructure is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boost local supply chains, and accelerate innovation in sectors such as fintech, healthcare, e-commerce, gaming, startups, and government digital services.

Hyderabad Emerges as a Global Data Hub

With major global players investing heavily in cloud, data centres, electronics, and advanced manufacturing, Hyderabad and Telangana are rapidly emerging as preferred destinations for high-value digital infrastructure investments. The AWS expansion further strengthens the region’s appeal for multinational companies, startups, and investors looking for scalable and secure cloud solutions.

This investment also aligns with Telangana’s broader push to develop Future City, enhance digital infrastructure, and position itself as a global technology and innovation powerhouse.
